Racerstar RS30Ax4 V2 30A BLheli_S BB2 2-6S 4 in 1 ESC review from Banggood

Hi, this is review of the racestar 4in1 ESC with BLHeli_S FW + “PDBless” build log and maiden video flight of Realacc X210.

Product link:http://www.banggood.com/Racerstar-RS30Ax4-V2-30A-BLheli_S-BB2-2-6S-4-in-1-ESC Great thing about this ESC is that it comes preloaded with BLHeli_S. My ESC came with G-H-30 16.2 BLHeli_S FW, but if you buy them now (13.12.2016.) they already come preloaded with 16.5 FW which supports Dshot protocol.

Here is some info about BLHeli_S for newcomers: BLHeli_S firmware is the next generation code, following the base BLHeli code. BLHeli_S is designed for superior performance in multirotors, and uses hardware generated motor pwm for smooth throttle response and silent operation. All codes use damped light mode. Damped light does regenerative braking, causing very fast motor retardation, and inherently also does active freewheeling. The code supports features to prevent sync loss. The code supports regular 1-2ms pulse width input, as well as Oneshot125 (125-250us), Oneshot42 (41.7-83.3us) and Multshot (5-25us). The input signal is automatically detected by the ESC upon power up. ESC supports new DSHOT protocol! - see my test - Dshot-bench-test-super-smooth-motor-spining-at-1011-REVO-and-Racerstar-BLHeli_S This ESC has BB2 MCU which works at 48MHz and can handle up to 32kHz motor speed refresh rate or Dshot600. My toughs: ESC build looks high quality, with perfect shiny solder job and nice wires with enough length. No difference to my much pricier DYS, LB and ZTW ESCs. This 4in1 ESC seem like great pick for tight builds or some special frames with non standard or to narrow arms to fit single ESCs. I am planing to build Reallacc X210 and mixuko 210 with these ESCs. “pros”: + !!!6S POWER!!! (check latest mattystuntz videos on 5S packs, awesome) + easy to solder motor wire pads + ESC is protected inside frame (against prop strikes or branches, etc.) + smooth and quiet work of motors + low min. throttle without sync issues => longer inverted air time (for example: on my BLHeli dys xm20a ESC min. trottle is 1034, and on my Racerstar BLHeli_S ESC min. throttle is 1025) + BLHeli_S ESCs will support Dshot protocol “neutral”: No BEC installed. Some would say that this is negative thing but with careful pick of part this is far most not an issue. In my case I will make two different kinds of “PDBless” solution, in realacc build I am using this VTX (https://goo.gl/Q1f5nj) which has 5V out which will drive FC and receiver. In mixuko build I will use this FC (https://goo.gl/LTxIc0) which has on-board BEC for powering FC and receiver. FPV cam and VTX are powered directly from 4S batt. So NO BEC – NO problem for me! “cons”: - failure of one ESC renders the whole 4in1 board useless - except if you are interested in building an tricopter - the 4in1 ESC is not sitting below propeller, so it doesn't get as much air cooling, so it is advised to leave enough space around ESC inside the frame to get some air flow. Improvement suggestion: add solder pad for VCC (battery voltage out for cascading other parts) BUILD LOG MAIDEN FLIGHT Build part list: Realacc X210 4mm Carbon Fiber FPV Racing Frame w/ Matek PDB-XT60 5V & 12V – https://goo.gl/1KEDAa 4X Racerstar Racing Edition 2205 BR2205 2300KV 2-4S Brushless Motor 2 CW & 2 CCW - https://goo.gl/lLDUQq Racerstar RS30Ax4 V2 30A BLheli_S BB2 2-6S 4 in 1 ESC Support Oneshot42 Multishot for FPV Racer - https://goo.gl/NV24Z4 naze32 rev5, BF300, 1.6kHz, acc off - http://goo.gl/HdySuT Skyzone FPV googles - http://goo.gl/qAoHNo HS1177 FPV cam - http://goo.gl/63IMzM 2.1mm lens for FPV cam - https://goo.gl/CKukDT Eachine ET526 5.8G 40CH 25mW/200mW/600mW Switchable FPV TX - https://goo.gl/Q1f5nj Skyzone 5.8GHz RHCP 4 Leaf FPV Antenna TX/RX SMA/RP-SMA - https://goo.gl/iw7m0i Kiongkong 5x45x3 props - https://goo.gl/MgES2j Watch some my other flight/maiden videos on my YT channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/mlilasic
