Review of FrSky Taranis Q X7 - Best Buy Transmitter on the Market

Just received my FrSky Taranis Q X7 from here - FrSky-ACCST-Taranis-Q-X7-2_4GHz-16CH-Transmitter

Intro: I'm so excited about this transmitter from FrSky. Its great way to enter world of FrSky transmitters and receivers which are very popular, especially among mini-quads pilots. Q X7 compared to X9D only misses two switches and two sliders which are needed in some special cases like multi-rotors for video recording and gliders... soooooo, no big deal... Same great OpenTX SW like X9... and possibility to use Companion TX on PC for creating, modifying, backing up and transferring models to other Taranis Transmitters. And internal XJT module with same range (internal XJT module is the same as in Taranis X9...), with modern look and better ergonomic but all that at great price. Usage of Open TX is like any X9 or X9D, no differences, except slightly different screen layout due smaller screen, similar operation and its even easier due the usage of scrolling wheel. Hall Effect gimbals M7 Hall Effect gimbals are also in preparation for X7 and they will be available soon. Ergonomics: It has grips behind for comfortable and non slippery grip.

Removed the spring on throttle, because "out of the box" throttle self centers (DJI phantom like).

Specifications: Operating Voltage Range: 6~15V (2S, 3S Lipos are acceptable) Operating Current: 210mA maximum (both RF module and backlit are on) Operating Temperature: -10~45℃ Backlight LCD Screen: 128*64 outdoor readable LCD Model Memories: 60 (extendable by SD card) Compatibility: FrSky X series, D series and V8-II series receivers (plus other receivers if an external module is used - I have Orange UHF 433Mhz external module I can use on Q7) Features: Quad Ball Bearing Gimbals Receiver Match Audio Speech Outputs (values, alarms, settings, etc.) Antenna Status Detection and adjustment Real-time Flight Data Logging Receiver Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) Alerts Super Low Latency Smart Port Supported Vibration Alerts Model configuration files compatible with TARANIS X9D Plus OpenTX FW that came with (upgrade procedure in post #3 of my full review) PROS:

  • Great price/quality ratio (FrSky brand)

  • Great price/functionality ratio (OpenTX) - lot a like X9D

  • Scrolling wheel

  • Companion TX PC SW

  • Sound from speaker is perfect

CONS:

  • No charging port - quick fix in post #6

  • Self centering throttle - easy fixed by removing one spring

Conclusion: Best Buy Transmitter Q7 feels great in hand. Quality of gimbals and switches is also great. Sound from speaker is perfect (amber sound pack on SD card). Transmitter like this for 120$... Still cant believe... Highly recommend... Grab yours HERE.
